Roadside Illumination

Keys to Roadside Services recommends every vehicle have some form of Breakdown Illumination for day time and especially night time. We recommend LED Safety Lights rather than the traditional burning flares. Please see state the normal state regulations on hazard lighting below:

LED SAFETY LIGHTING VS Road Flares

  • LEDs are safer to use
  • LEDs Are easier to store
  • LED lights preform longer
  • Allow versatile placement around the vehicle

We Recommend Two Products

Circular Disks

The Emergency Disks are Magnetic, Hang from the car or lay on the Ground

LED Flares

State Breakdown Requirements

The Roadside Service Call

The Basics of a Roadside Call

Here is some basic information about placing a Roadside Service Call.

  • If you are in an accident or in a dangerous location on the road CALL 911
  • Make sure you have the correct local area phone number
( Carry the membership card and enter the membership number & local number in the “contacts area” on your cell phone )
  • Take a couple of minutes to locate a local address and if a tow is necessary obtain the address of the destination location.
  • Some companies have apps you can down load.
( This should be done prior, don’t try to use a new system at this critical time )
( Choose to talk to person in the Road Side Services department
  • Make the call, you will be talking to a Roadside Service Representative who will be entering all of the important information about your call.
  • When the call is finished the Roadside Service Representative will pass your Work Order on to the truck dispatchers.
( This will take a few minutes so don’t expect an immediate ETA to be given )
  • How long do to service calls take? Plan on at least 60 to 90 minutes
( If the truck can make it earlier GREAT but, don’t plan on it. )
  • A service company will have an office address but the trucks are not there, they are in the field preforming service calls.
  • Roadside Service Companies will dispatch the closest truck that is capable of helping you with your particular needs.
  • There are light duty (Pickup Trucks that handle flat tires and battery problems )
  • There are specialty tow trucks for cars that have transmission problems or the car is stuck in park
  • There are several sizes of Flat Bed ( Roll Back ) trucks
  • There are heavy duty tow trucks for large vehicles and road trips

So a Roadside Service Company could have a truck near by but it’s the wrong truck for your needs.

Anticipating Service Arrival

Roadside Service consumers have to have a REALISTIC EXPECTATION for arrival times. Times have changed and just the shear volume of everyday traffic impedes the travel commuters and the performance of service vehicles. The service vehicles heavier and slower.
Service people realize it’s very stressful to breakdown. It’s dangerous, time consuming and expensive.
There is a trade off, some private companies have a much shorter response time but the Rates are much higher.

Here are some facts about service call response times:

  • Everyone expects service quickly ( Some Expect 15 to 20 Minutes )
  • Everyone believes their situation is more important that others
( Some Are – Interstate calls, Kids and Pets Locked in the car and medical )
  • There are not as many Roadside personnel in rural areas

The fact is your car has broken down and it’s one of those life events we all endure.
It’s and interruption to your day and we all have to adjust to the situation.
Learn and Be Prepared is the fastest way to deal with car breakdowns

Locking Lug Nuts

Locking Lug Nuts Roadside Service

Keys to Roadside Service

Here is the problem with locking lug nuts. A lot of people buy used cars that have the locking lug nuts and they are not informed when they buy the car. Not only are they not informed about the locking lug nuts they don’t receive the key to unlock the lug nuts.

Check for Locking Lug NutsNOW” before you travel again. If you have locking lug nuts and don’t have a key go to an auto parts store and see if the can help you.
This is a big problem because most roadside service trucks do not carry the lug nut keys. If they don’t you will have to have your vehicle towed to a larger type tire shop that has the keys. You would need to call ahead and make sure the tire shop has the key.

NEW CARS
Some new cars come with locking lug nuts. Ask and make sure you receive the key.

Frequent Problem
Having locking lug nuts and not having the key is a more frequent problem then you would think. On a flat tire call a Roadside Service Provider most likely will send a light duty truck so if the call turns they can’t change the tire the call will turn into a tow. That means there would be a tow truck sent and your membership would be charged a second service call.

Understanding Roadside Service

Why Should We Spend Time Learning About Our Roadside Service?

Roadside Service ( Assistance ) is like Insurance. You think you don’t need it until you need it. Having car insurance is a law, having Roadside Service is not. It’s a personal decision which should be driven by facts.

Car Insurance Knowledge

Drivers Think They Have Insurance They Don’t Really Have

Many drivers think they have car insurance that isn’t actually available. For instance, 50% of those surveyed thought their car insurance policies include accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. But AD&D insurance is not a part of car insurance policies.

At least 40% of drivers believe they have coverage that doesn’t exist in a car insurance policy:

  • 47% of drivers think “additional living expenses” coverage is part of their auto insurance policies. This coverage is actually part of homeowners and renters insurance.
  • 49% of drivers think their auto insurance includes “extended crash protection,” which isn’t an actual coverage type.
  • 41% say they have “vehicle emissions” insurance in their auto insurance policies. There is no coverage for vehicle emissions.

Roadside Service

Since the data applies to car insurance what level of understanding do consumers have about Roadside Service?
Drivers encounter 1000’s of different breakdown serious everyday. No two breakdowns are the same.
Again, we can’t emphasize the seriousness and danger of an accident or vehicle breakdown.
It’s proven that having a organized service provider is more dependable, safer and less costly then doing it yourself or trying to find a provider on the fly. The average driver confronts a roadside challenge every couple of years, consumers may not need to be obsessed with roadside, but they should at least try to understand their coverage.

More Car Insurance Facts

Young drivers ages 18 to 25 are most likely to believe they have coverage that doesn’t exist:

  • 74% believe they have AD&D ( accidental death and dismemberment ) insurance in their auto insurance policies.
  • 69% say their car insurance covers “additional living expenses.”
  • 68% think they have “extended crash protection,” which doesn’t exist.
  • 65% believe their car insurance covers “vehicle emissions.”

Mistakes like these mean that drivers may be surprised by what’s not covered by their insurance when they try to make a claim after a car crash or other vehicle damage.
